Plagued by logistical setbacks, this hike was meant to include Algonquin and Iroquois. This was one of the rare instances of me having a hiking partner as my friend Matt flew out from Michigan to join me on the Macintyre range. After a flight that was delayed overnight we ended up not starting on the trail until noon, and when we did we were met with cloudy skies and socked in trails. Nevertheless, our climb up Wright was great fun and it was neat to be up there under those conditions. Despite heavy clouds all day rain never did fall. When we reached the summit we stopped for a break among the intense wind and heavy clouds. Shortly after we headed back down the trail and this is when I learned how miserable the constant rocks of the Macintyre range are after even a short day of hiking. Even by ADK standards, that trail is brutal on the knees going down. But we made it back to flat ground and enjoyed the smooth one mile walk back to the car.

"Climbing these peaks is not just about reaching the summit; it's about the journey,

the challenge, and the deep connection to the mountains."

- Herbert Malec, First known ADK 46er
