My favorite hike in the High Peaks and my first hike with a quality camera! My day started with a 1:30 AM wake up time followed by about three hours of driving. My favorite parts of the Dix Range are the Macomb Slide and the rock scrambles headed up South Dix. The first three peaks came very quickly but the final peak of the day seemed to take forever to get too. I was pretty worn out when I finally reached the summit of Dix but lunch with a spectacular view had me walking back to my car in high spirits. The trek down the Beckhorn Trail was a bit steep for my liking and I was happy to be on flat ground when I reached the bottom. A leisurely 4 mile walk out in the dark was a surprisingly enjoyable way to unwind after being up on the summits all day.
"Climbing these peaks is not just about reaching the summit; it's about the journey,
the challenge, and the deep connection to the mountains."
- Herbert Malec, First known ADK 46er
