A couple weeks after climbing Wright I returned to the Macintyre Range to climb Algonquin & Iroquois. I was gifted with an absolutely perfect day for climbing and I'm so glad I saved these summits for another day. The climb up to the Wright split was of course familiar, and everything after that was constant excitement, beauty, and awe. There was one slab on the way up Algonquin and a bit of scrambling on the approach to Iroquois, but those were the only real challenges of the day. Once I had climbed above treeline I remained up there for hours with nonstop views. I stopped briefly at the summit of Algonquin to take in the views then began the trek over toward Iroquois to find a place sheltered from the wind for a longer break. The south side of the mountain was far more calm and I stopped for a nap among the alpine meadows (staying on the rock of course to not damage the plant life). After resting for a while I made the quick trek over to Iroquois and turned around to go back over Algonquin and down to the trailhead. The trails were busy on this day and I met so many other hikers up on the mountains. ADK hikers are some of the nicest people out there and I am never more excited to meet new people than when I'm on the trail. I made the knee crushing descent back to the Loj and enjoyed some good food in Lake Placid afterward.

"Climbing these peaks is not just about reaching the summit; it's about the journey,

the challenge, and the deep connection to the mountains."

- Herbert Malec, First known ADK 46er
